For each of the past two summers, Polk CDC has partnered with Partners for a Hunger-Free Oregon and the Dallas and Central School Districts to offer FREE lunches every summer weekday to children ages 1 to 18. Lunches are served at Woodbridge Meadow Apartments and Rickreall Creek Townhomes in Dallas and at Park West Apartments in Independence. All are welcome!

This past summer, Polk CDC also added a FREE children’s activities program at Woodbridge Meadow and Rickreall Creek, both in Dallas. The program is open to any and all children ages 6 to 12 and includes fun and enriching activities that engage children while helping build their math, literacy, and social skills.

New in the fall of 2010, Polk CDC is offering an after-school food and activities program at Woodbridge Meadow Apartments and at Rickreall Creek Townhomes for children ages 6 to 12. Like the successful Summer Activities program, the after-school program will be made-up of fun and enriching activities that engage children while helping build their math, literacy, and social skills. In partnership with the Dallas School District, a FREE after-school snack or supper will be served to all participants.

Carol Hensley Memorial Children’s Fund

Since 1991, the Carol Hensley Memorial Children’s Fund has provided small grants to help children pay for school clothes and supplies, summer camps, sports and activities fees, medical/dental co-pays, and other needs. On occasion, the Fund has also been used to pay for college scholarships for outgoing seniors who are Polk CDC or West Valley Housing Authority clients. In almost 20 years of existence, the Children’s Fund has helped over 180 Polk County children reach for their dreams.
