Our Mission
From its inception in 1989, the mission of Polk Community Development Corporation (Polk CDC) has been to provide income eligible Polk County residents with affordable housing, supported with self-help programs that assist families in their efforts to achieve significant life goals.
Polk CDC is a non-profit organization, solely governed by a Board of Directors consisting of seven Polk County residents. Polk CDC develops a variety of housing for qualified low to moderate income families and individuals.
Polk CDC also administers an affordable loan program in partnership with Polk County and local cities for qualified homeowners for home improvement loans, for rental properties serving qualified families and for business façade upgrade improvements.
Accomplishments
- Housing development by Polk CDC has brought over $18 million into Polk County to provide housing for hundreds of individuals, families and children.
- Manages a $3.2 million Revolving Loan Fund that has assisted over 800 families with $8.5 million in home repairs.
- Developed 186 Units of affordable rental and lease-to-own housing.
- Created and supported an estimated 10,000 jobs in Polk County with new construction and rehabilitation activities.
- Designated as a Regional Housing Center in partnership with West Valley Housing Authority, Housing Authority of Yamhill County and Yamhill County Affordable Housing Corporation providing financial and homeownership education.
- Hosted three sites for Summer Lunch Program in 2009 serving over 100 lunches daily to children for eight weeks.
- Manages The Carol Hensley Memorial Children’s Fund which has helped 160 children in affordable and subsidized housing with small grants to cover dental and medical care, school clothes and supplies, participation fees for school sports, arts and music, and attendance at camps.
- Designated as Community Housing Development Organization.
- Partner in collaborative to establish Valley IDA Program (VIDA) now the largest IDA network in the country with 60 member organizations.
- Graduated 26 participants through the IDA Asset Development Program (1 Youth, 2 Business, 3 Education and 20 Homeownership.)
- Graduated 20 families from Lease-to-Own/Buyback into homeownership.
- Graduated 35 families from affordable housing developments into homeownership.
- Partner in collaborative to establish the MERIT micro-enterprise training program serving Polk, Yamhill and Marion counties.
